Welcome Back to School!

by Principal on September 4, 2015

Dear Parents of Al-Rasheed Academy,

Assalamu ‘alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhuh,

As we begin our fourth year at Al-Rasheed Academy, on behalf of the faculty and staff, I would like to welcome you and your child(ren) to the 2015-2016 school year. I look forward to working with you and your child(ren) and making a positive difference in our school and community this year. To accomplish this, there are many updates and changes occurring at Al-Rasheed Academy please read through the following to familiarize yourself with some of them:

  1. 9-10th graders are now with Daar ul Arqam Academy! – If you would like to enroll your children please see the Principal Amin or Abdullah Mardaie
  2. Screening Procedure – There will be a mandatory screening after 1-month for all students who have been suggested by their teachers and administrators.  Al-Rasheed Academy is not equipped with the resources necessary to serve children who may require special education programs. We are only able to effectively cater towards students who have at least an average competency and do not display any special learning, speech, physical or behavioral problems. If a student is found to have needs or services which Al-Rasheed Academy cannot provide, or shows an unwillingness to learn, we will not be able to service that child for this year.

Reminders for Parents

Finalize Registration

To finalize your child’s registration to Al-Rasheed Academy, you are required to pay the one time registration fee. This helps us to provide proper academic services for your child.

School Lunch

The breakfast/lunch service will not be provided by the school until notification has been sent with your child.  Until then, please provide lunch for your child(ren). Children may not have uncooked food for lunch (eg: no frozen food or instant ramen noodles).

Bus service

Busing is through the Lackawanna City School District, not through Al-Rasheed Academy. For this reason – any questions or inquires you may have must be directed through them. If you would like to sign up for the bus service and reside in Lackawanna, you must contact the Lackawanna City School District. Busing will not be provided on days not coinciding with the City District schedules and early dismissals, unless stated otherwise, and it will be your responsibility for the transportation of your child. We will try our best to keep you informed as much as possible regarding any changes.

If your child would like to walk home from school and are in grades K-5 – they must have a signed permission form at the office. If they are K-2 grades, they must have an older adult or sibling to walk with them and keep that permission form filed at the office.

Pick up Authorization

If your child is going to be picked up by an adult who is not a parent or legal guardian, authorization MUST be provided by the parent/guardian before children are allowed to be released.

A few other things to note…

  • Students must also have an updated immunization record on file. If you have not already submitted an immunization record on file with the school, please do so immediately.
  • Past tuition dues must be paid and up-to-date in order for us to continue being able to support your child. Please make arrangements or request a meeting to be able to resolve this issue if it has not already been done.
  • To receive scholarship (tuition reduction), parents must complete the application with proof of income no later than September 20, 2015.
  • Any and all missing textbooks from the students must be returned. If they cannot be located, parents are expected to provide reimbursement.
  • Supply lists and school uniform information are posted at alrasheedacademy.org and be available at Al-Rasheed Academy’s main office. Copies may also be available at Al-Huda Mosque at Lackawanna, NY.

As we grow, we plan on setting higher standards of academic excellence and encouraging all students to reach their potential at Al-Rasheed Academy. Your support and participation on this journey to academic development is invaluable, so please stop by at any time to offer your feedback or suggestions.

If you would like to become an active volunteer within our school system, please drop by the office to pick up a volunteer form.

As a final note:

Classes began on September 3, 2015 insha’Allah. Class hours are from 7:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

o  Students who are being picked up should be taken from school no later than 3:45 p.m. Only authorized parents or guardians will be allowed to pick up students from school.

Thank you for your continued support. Please contact the school office at 716-822-0440 during our office hours if you have any questions or concerns.

JazakumAllahu khair!
